That being said, she is still a magical being with ambition and a history of actually doing things besides scrub floors, hunt, sleep around and get tried for witchcraft. After she is corrupted, she tells her former subjects to buzz off because she's evil now, but we don't see her actually do anything evil, like blast the pixies who were trying to rescue her from being corrupted, or burn some dryads for no reason at all. Here again we have a mistress who talks a lot but doesn't do much. Without any real character developement, she is now evil, because she says she's evil and she talks in an evil sounding deep voice. If you chose to corrupt her into Dark Fay, she becomes a pretty simple cartoon villainess. Had she been able to aid the Overlord in some political way to let him take down the empire from within by corrupting key figures, she might have had an opportunity to show some other more devious side of her personality, but as it stands, she ranks below even Kelda in suitability to be the first mistress.įinally we have Fay who's analysis should really be split up considering how different her incarnations are depending on the player's choices. Adding to this already less than ideal situation, Juno shows nothing that suggests to me that she is not as dumb as she appears or as everyone else thinks. This doesn't make her unsuitable to be a mistress, she just shouldn't be first mistress. Sadly, she would not be in that situation in the first place if she were not such a gold digger. This shows a certain amount of courage in the face of false accusation. In her little trial before the governess of Everlight, she conducts herself with haughtiness in her defense, bluntly spelling out the real reason for her accusers' husbands' infidelity. Next we have Juno, and a brief glance suggests that she is all looks and no brain, but perhaps she has more to offer than meets the eye. As it stands, Kelda is fairly bland, and doesn't seem a worthy partner for the Overlord. If she could put her skills to the test in a real, ingame combat scenario, she would have a chance to earn her place at the Overlord's side. She does make claims of physical prowess, but we never see her do any real hunting, so it might all be talk. While she does indeed deserve the title of mistress for her loyalty to the witch boy, making her first mistress is perhaps too great of a position for a back-water serving wench. The only Nordbergian to ever show kindness to the Overlord, it seems only natural that she would grow to be his lover one day, but is this redheaded sweetheart any more than just a childhood crush all grown up and looking to score with a powerful potential husband? Kelda displays little character beyond liking hunting and being a mostly nice girl. Granted, the answer will ultimately be decided by personal preference, but I think that there are some objective standards by which we can judge the characters of each mistress to find out which is best. Naturally, the question arises: Who is best girl? One of the advantages of being the Overlord is that you can choose your mistress, whether the scrappy mistress Kelda, or the buxom mistress Juno the newly corrupted Dark Fay, or the semi-living Ghost Fay.
